– The quake occurred at a depth of 33 kilometers in Iburi region.
– Magnitude 5.8 Earthquake.
– There is no risk of tsunami.

Public Transportation Status

Subways (as of 5:10 am on 2/22)
Subway service was temporarily suspended immediately after an earthquake on 2/21 in order to inspect and confirm the safety of Subway facilities. Subway service has resumed on all lines.

Namboku Line: Operation resumed in both directions (as of 4:47 am on 2/22)
Toho Line: Operation resumed in both directions (as of 4:15 am on 2/22)
Tozai Line: Operation resumed in directions (as of 5:03 am on 2/22)

*Please note, due to effects of the earthquake, it is expected that service will not run on schedule on Friday the 22nd. Subways will run every 10 minutes starting from 6:30 am.

Rapid Service Airport (Sapporo to New Chitose Airport): in service from the first train
Sapporo area lines (Hakodate Line, Chitose Line, Gakuen Toshi Line) will be resuming service as usual, with some scheduled services paused, including the first train of the day.

Temporary Shelters

In response to the earthquake which struck at 9:21 pm on Thursday, February 21st, the Sapporo Ekimae Underground Walkway was opened for people to take temporary shelter in. As of 8:00 am on Friday the 22nd, the temporary shelter was closed and the walkway open for use as normal. The Sapporo Community Plaza, which was also open from 12:30 am on the 21st has closed as of 7:00 am on the 22nd.
