Ceramic Art Center

Neighboring Ebetsu City is known for ceramics and bricks. Ebetsu City Ceramic Art Center narrates the culture of Hokkaido ceramics.

Ebetsu City Ceramic Art Center features two permanent exhibition rooms. Inside the “Ceramics of the North” room is also the “Shinobu Komori Memorial Room.” Komori is one of the leaders of glaze research in Japan. Komori migrated from place to place in search of superior ceramic works and finally arrived at Ebetsu City in 1959 at the age of 60. Until he passed at the age of 72, he contributed to the development of Hokkaido ceramics. The Ceramic Art Center shows his work by period and region. The “Ceramics Shop” features works, such as mugs and small plates, by local artists. From the observation tower, one can see a 360-degrees panoramic view of Nopporo Primeval Forest, Mount Eniwadake and Mount Tarumaesan.
