Useful Information for Foreign Tourists in Sapporo: How to use a gas station
How to use a gas station
Hokkaido has both full-service and self-service gas stations. At a full-service station, an attendant will pump the gas for you, while a self-service station is one where you have to do the filling yourself. Typically you will fill your car with regular gasoline at a self-service station. The nozzles are color coded—green is diesel, regular is red, and premium (or high octane) is yellow. Be sure to use the right one. Some gas stations in Sapporo are open 24 hours a day. Keep in mind, though, that in rural places with lighter traffic volumes, most gas stations close at around 18:00, while some are also closed on weekends. Fill up well in advance to avoid running out of gas.
