Mt. Hakkenzan
A unique scenery of sharp rocks that cover the summit
An orchard and horse riding club at the base
With an altitude of 498m, the Mt. Hakkenzan is not a tall mountain, but the rocks that cover the summit makes it have an interesting facade. The original name is Mount Kannoniwa-yama but due to the rocks that look like swords, it took on its other name Hakken meaning eight-swords mountain. The mountain can be seen from national highway 230 that goes to Jouzankei Onsen (Hot Springs) and has a special place in the hearts of the Sapporo citizens. Around the base, there are orchards that grow cherries and strawberries, fruit farms where visitors can pick fruits and facilities where they can experience horse back riding.
