Sapporo Children’s Theater “Yamabikoza”
A theater for children that puts on puppet shows and performances aimed at children.
Sapporo Children’s Theater “Yamabikoza” is a theater that opened in 1988 as a base for the creation and promotion of children’s culture in Hokkaido. Every weekend, puppet shows and performances aimed at children are put on for a low price, and infants may be taken along to the majority of performances. The picture book readings and storytelling with pictures held on weekday afternoons are also popular. Effort is also put into introducing the traditional Japanese art of Joruri puppetry, and events where children can come into contact with Joruri puppets and Japanese musical instruments as well as performances where they can enjoy traditional puppet shows from various areas of Japan are held on a regular basis. It is also fun to look at the Joruri puppets and the dolls donated by theaters around the world on display inside the theater. Enjoy a puppet show at the “theater for children” loved by Sapporo residents.
