Sake no Marukame
A salmon specialty store in Sapporo that hand-makes all its products using all-natural autumn salmon and tokishirazu salmon (salmon of other seasons) from Hokkaido
Sake no Marukame is a salmon specialty store of Sapporo that has specialized in making processed foods from all-natural salmon since it was founded back in 1935. The salmon used in its products are all-natural male salmon from Hokkaido that primarily landed in Rausu or Nemuro. We recommend Marukame’s original sashimi salmon made using a type of salmon called ginke, which refers to a stage of the salmon’s life cycle. Ginke is the name given to juvenile salmon that appear silvery white in color. These salmon are rare and represent only one out of 100 caught during fixed-net fishing. Sashimi salmon, which is made by preserving the fish in a small amount of salt, can be eaten as is like sashimi, but is also delicious when grilled. In addition to the Maruyama Main Store, you can find the store’s products at outlets in Daimaru Sapporo and at New Chitose International Airport. We recommend the salmon onigiri (rice balls) at New Chitose International Airport, which are made only after you order it. Definitely give it a try before setting out on your journey through Hokkaido.
