Sapporo has convenient ATMs that accept foreign credit cards for times when you run out of Japanese yen.

It’s always a good idea to show up prepared with Japanese cash when you go shopping or dining in Sapporo. “Seven Bank” ATMs, which are mainly located inside 7-Eleven convenience stores, are open 24-hours, and allow you to withdraw Japanese yen at any time* using an international cash card, credit card, or debit card (VISA, PLUS, MasterCard, Maestro, Cirrus, UnionPay, American Express, JCB, Discover, Diners Club). If you need to exchange your money, you can head over to the foreign currency exchange counter in the Hokkaido Bank or Hokuyo Bank (North Pacific Bank, Ltd.) located in front of Sapporo Station, or the exchange counter in New Chitose Airport. VISA and MasterCard are the most commonly accepted credit cards when making purchases.
