Maeda Forest Park

A comprehensive park which is half forest
Its symbol is the 600m long canal and avenue of poplars

Maeda Forest Park is a comprehensive park which began construction in 1982 and took 10 years to finish. Under the concept of surrounding the city of Sapporo with greenery (“Circular Greenbelt Concept”) , it was developed with the Teine district as the base point. Half of the park is covered in forests with names such as furusato (hometown), tsudoi (gathering) and yacho (wild bird) and during the fall the leaves of poplar and rowan trees turn bright colors. The symbol of the park is the canal which is 600m long and 15m wide and which heads directly to Mount Teineyama. Along with the 240 poplar trees, they add a foreign ambience to the park. The clean air is perfect for jogging and walking. Visitors can enjoy cross-country skiing and snow trekking in the winter season.
